Event Description
"Dire Predictions: Understanding Global Warming, Michael Mann on the Science and Politics of Climate Change."
The Libraries and CHAT welcome Dr. Mann, as he discusses scientific discourse in today’s political climate. He will also discuss his book, Dire Predictions: Understanding Global Warming.
Michael Mann, a leading climatologist, is the director of the Earth System Science Center and a professor at the Pennsylvania State University. He received his doctorate in geophysics from Yale in 1998. Mann met controversy when his documents and emails were made public after the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit’s server was hacked. Skeptics seized on his communications, claiming they brought into question the legitimacy of global warming. Penn State cleared Mann of any wrongdoing, and independent reviews demonstrated that critics misrepresented emails to support unfounded claims of misconduct. “Climategate,” remains a potent example of the politicization of science. |
