Event Description:
“The Reykjavík Youth Strings,” is a group of young string players, ages 14 to 20 years old, who perform at an advanced level in the Sigursveinn D. Kristinsson’s School of Music. Also called “The Music Academy Tónskóli Sigursveins,” the school is located in Reykjavík, Iceland and was established in 1964. The orchestra plays a wide range of music written for string orchestra by such composers as: Rautavaara, Händel, Tippet, and Sibelius, as well as modern Icelandic pieces by Hallgrimsson and Rúnarsdóttir. It is the ambition of conductor, Ólöf Sigursveinsdóttir, to bring the orchestra abroad regularly to introduce the best of Nordic string works and chamber music, while sharing the expressiveness and powerful sound of this talented ensemble.
