Studying & Transforming Urban Environments through Participatory Visual & Digital Research
Start Date: 4/4/2014Start Time: 2:00 PM
End Date: 4/4/2014End Time: 3:15 PM

Event Description
Participatory visual and digital research methods are changing the way anthropologists forge new knowledge about urban environments, creating possibilities for collaborative, engaged inquiry. Participatory digital methodologies include PhotoVoice, participatory video making, participatory mapping and GIS (PGIS), and participatory digital archival research, among others. These methodologies produce rich visual and narrative data guided by participant interests and priorities, putting the methods literally in the hands of the participants themselves. They appeal to wide and diverse audiences, deploying the production and consumption of knowledge beyond the academy and for use in the public realm to inform urban planning and design.
