Event Description When a social worker and a psychiatrist got lost in Mississippi, they met a woman who said: “If you’ve got a tape recorder, we’ve got stories.” This began the journey of Joan Sadoff and Dr. Rober Sadoffs into documentary filmmaking. In 1994, their first documentary, Philadelphia, Mississippi: Untold Stories portrayed the impact of the Civil Rights movement on the town where Schwerner, Cheney, and Goodman, three activists, were brutally murdered. It won the Bronze award from the National Education Media Competition. Standing On My Sisters' Shoulders marks their second documentary. During this special Women’s History Month Luncheon, join Joan Sadoff as she provides an in depth look are the documentary process and how they set about presenting their important stories of courage in the face of extreme adversity during the Civil Rights moments. In addition to a viewing of Standing On My Sisters’ shoulders, lunch will be served. This program is sponsored by the Office of Student Life and is open to all students, faculty, and staff. |
