Event Description “What is it like to be a college student in the digital age?” This report of preliminary findings and analysis from student discussion groups held on seven U.S. campuses in Fall 2008 as part of Project Information Literacy suggests that conducting research is particularly challenging. Students particularly cited their lack of “contexts” for “backgrounding” topics and figuring out how to traverse complex information landscapes as a challenge. The findings also suggest that students create effective methods for conducting research by using traditional methods, such as libraries, and self-taught, creative workarounds, such as “presearch” and Wikipedia. Interesting reading as we consider how to help our students successfully complete research projects in our courses. |
