Event Description Come and hear Ellen W. Johnson, retired from 42 years of teaching in the Philadelphia School District, as she shares a story of quilt making and its importance to African-American history. Slaves started out making quilts out of scraps of clothing and anything else they could find, they were utilitarian quilts to basically keep warm. Johnson is noted for using African fabric to highlight her culture in quilt making — many of her own quilt designs will be on display. |
