Event Description Pi Alpha Xi, the national honor society for Horticulture students, is continuing its highly successful “Sustainability Action Day” for another week! Last week, the organization and a group of dedicated volunteers cleared away invasive trees and plants in the meadow area across the Loop Road from the campus library. This week, the organization invites all students, faculty, and staff to help plant native trees and shrubs in the cleared meadow. By removing the invasive trees and re-planting with native species, it will be harder for the invasives to return. The new plantings will also give this woodland/meadow buffer more biodiversity and deer fencing will be installed to give the new trees some protection. All majors and skill levels are welcome to participate! It will be a great opportunity to learn more about plants and meet people. Be sure to wear protective shoes and dress for the weather. Work gloves and tools will be provided and snacks and drinks will be served. |
