Event Description The David M. Katz Scholarship Fund was established by Dr. Robert and Mimsye Katz in 1992 shortly after their teenage son, David, was killed in a car accident. David was a dedicated, enthusiastic and free-spirited musician, and this endowed fund was created to build a lasting tribute to his life by providing the opportunity for other dedicated young musicians to pursue their passion for music.
The Katz scholarship is awarded annually to full-time music students in Temple University’s Jazz Studies program at the Boyer College of Music and Dance.
More than thirty jazz students have received Katz scholarships and gone on to careers as educators and professional musicians. Each fall, the Katz family hosts a Golf Tournament followed by dinner and silent auction to benefit the endowed scholarship fund, which has surpassed $400,000.
