| Stony Brook University to Honor Elaine Bonazzi: Acclaimed Mezzo Soprano and Faculty Member |

Event Description World renowned mezzo-soprano Elaine Bonazzi, who has been a member of Stony Brook’s Department of Music for many years, will be honored on the occasion of her retirement at a recital featuring several distinguished former students, including internationally acclaimed soprano Christine Goerke and mezzo-soprano, Deanne Meek. Tributes will be paid to Ms. Bonazzi by leading members of the world’s opera community including Brian Kellow from Opera News as well as some of her Stony Brook colleagues, including opera conductors Timothy Long, and David Lawton, and department chair, Judith Lochhead. The program will include the world premiere of three songs on poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay, dedicated to Ms. Bonazzi, and composed by Sheila Silver for this occasion. Other participants include Ms. Bonazzi’s current and former students Risa Renae Harman, Kathleen Flynn, Gloria Park, Greta Feeny, Mariane Lemieux and Seung Hee Lee. This group of singers together with Ms. Goerke and Ms. Meek, have performed on most of the world's important opera stages including The Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, English National Opera, New York City Opera, La Scala, Santa Fe Opera and Paris Opera, among many others.
