Event Description There are composers, then there are singers and finally there are entertainers. Meet Arif Lohar once and you know that he is an amalgamation of all of the above–an artist extraordinaire. His jovial personality, the highly-infectious grin he sports and the trademark chimta, which he inherited from his father and always accompanies him in a performance, simply sets him apart from other exponents of folk and Sufi music. Arif Lohar is one of Pakistan's most beloved folk singers. Singing contemporary interpretations of traditional Punjabi songs, Lohar captures the sights and sounds of modern Pakistani culture with a unique mix of pop and folk stylings. Lohar plays his beloved chimta, a traditional percussion instrument resembling tongs, and is backed by an
ensemble of talented Pakistani musicians. Born in a small village called Aach Goch in Gujrat District of Punjab, Pakistan, Arif Lohar follows in the footsteps of his father, famous Pakistani folk singer Alam Lohar. Worldwide, he is among the top Punjabi folk and pop singers.
In a special collaboration, Arif Lohar will be joined by talented world music songstress Arooj Aftab. Her inspired songwriting fuses classical Pakistani and Sufi music traditions with contemporary jazz, folk and pop influences, creating a signature sound that has been described as "indigenous soul." |
