The piece chosen for the competition displays the creativity that is unraveled by the students involved in the exhibition. The spool within the piece, whose string wraps around the black letters spelling URECA, represents the ideas and art brought by each student to the exhibition. This string begins from the shield symbol of Stony Brook University, expressing the talent spun from the undergraduate student body and forming the “U” in URECA. It continues downwards, wrapping itself in and through the letters, winding around its spool. This spool envelopes the idea of a continuity in arts and creativity that prospers in unwinding and piecing together the ideas within the exhibition. Altogether the work symbolizes the unity that is developed within URECA. (Postcard design: Edwige P. Lauture)
