The Future of Science Research in America
Start Date: 4/22/2013Start Time: 10:45 AM
End Date: 4/22/2013

Event Description:
The Graduate Student Organization and the Stony Brook Graduate Career Association will host their first lecture from the series The Future of Science Research in America.

Our first speaker will be Dr. Gregory Petsko, a Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry and Chemistry at Brandeis University. He is deeply concerned about the current state of graduate education and holds many views on how he feels it should be reshaped for the future. Come join us with your questions and opinions for what promises to be a lively discussion.

Some topics that will be touched upon include:
· Are we training too many scientists?
· Are we training them the right way?
· How long should postgraduate education and training be?
· Why are career options not made clearer for graduate students?
· Why are post-docs invisible and how do we make them visible?
