Music, Language and Emotion Workshop
Start Date: 4/12/2013Start Time: 10:00 AM
End Date: 4/12/2013End Time: 6:00 PM

Event Description
Put a musicologist, a linguist and a psychologist together in a room and they will generally agree that music, language and emotion are related in some way. The precise nature of their relationship, however, is likely to be a much more hotly debated topic. Some of the nation’s leading researchers and theorists will gather to discuss the intersection between these three areas of human cognition.

Guest speakers include Nicole Calma (Stony Brook University), Arnie Cox (Oberlin College), John Drury (Stony Brook University), Carol Krumhansl (Cornell University), David Pesetsky (MIT), Michael Schober (New School of Social Research), Robert Slevc (University of Maryland), and Neta Spiro (Nordiff-Robbins Center for Music Therapy).

A performance by music department doctoral students Andrew Conklin, Branic Howard and Richard Vaudrey will follow the workshop.  The event is organized by LaMERG (the Language, Music and Emotion Research Group, Stony Brook University) and sponsored by the departments of Linguistics, Music, and Psychology.
