Helen L. Chen, Keynote Speaker
Helen is a researcher in the Center for Design Research, Department of Mechanical Engineering and is the project director for ePortfolio Initiatives in the Office of the Registrar at Stanford University. Helen's current research interests are focused in three areas: issues of academic and professional persistence in engineering education; assessment of teaching and learning in innovative learning spaces and active learning classrooms; and the use of ePortfolios and folio thinking related practices in general education, the disciplines, and in student affairs. Helen and her colleagues Tracy Penny-Light and John Ittelson are the authors of Documenting Learning with ePortfolios: A Guide for College Instructors (2011).
Ellen Marie Murphy
Ellen is currently the Director of Online Curriculum at SUNY Empire State College. Ellen has served the education community on both the K -12 and Higher Education levels since 1995. In 1999, while teaching in Vermont, she received a sizable grant from the Department of Employment and Training to implement ePortfolios in her classes. She has been a strong proponent for the use of ePortfolios since. She recently published a book on the use of Mahara for ePortfolios entitled The Mahara 1.4 Cookbook: For Training, Personal and Educational Purposes, and is working on a book entitled Outcomes Assessment with Moodle and Mahara.
