Korean Performing Arts Ensemble: Chwitadae
Start Date: 3/5/2013Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Date: 3/5/2013End Time: 9:00 PM

Event Description:
Preserving and reviving the vibrant tradition of Daechwita–Korean court or military music–Chwitadae is an award-winning ensemble on a mission to bring Korean performing arts to an international audience. Taking its name from chwita, literally meaning "to blow and to hit," Daechwita combines winds and percussion in a style that will stretch Western ears both timbrally and melodically. For this program, Chwitadae also includes elements of samulnori, the traditional Korean folk genre.

Co-Presented by Stony Brook University's Center for Korean Studies and Charles B. Wang Center.

Following the performance, a bibimbap is served, with the traditional ritual presentation.

Admission: $10 (all), including meal. Discount of 20% available to groups of 5 or more.
