Event Description:
Celebrate the national program Food Day with sustainable cooking demonstrations, documentary films, a garlic planting, and a farmers market, all of which are free.

Sunday, October 23
Visit the Student Activities Center from 6:00 to 8:00 pm when local farmer Scott Chaskey appears as the guest speaker. The viewing of Food Inc. will follow the lecture.

At 8:00 pm, the documentary Forks Over Knives will be shown at the SAC. The movie examines the claim that most of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled or reversed by eliminating our animal-based diets. It will be followed by a short documentary, Community Bloom.

Monday, October 24

Food Network chef Marc Bynum will be on hand from noon to 3:00 pm at the Student Activities Center Traditions Lounge with sustainable cooking demonstrations. His recipes will be featured at the Native Spice Express in the SAC. Also that day, purchase fresh, local produce at a farmers market from noon to 3:00 pm located at the SAC Plaza. Meal plans are accepted.

Health Sciences Center
At noon, Forks Over Knives will be screened at HSC Lecture Hall 6. Then from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, there will be a garlic planting and land clearing at the Hospital Garden, level 6. Sign up to participate on Facebook—Stony Brook Food Day 2011. Food Day will come to a close with the viewing of Food, Inc. at HSC Lecture Hall 2 at 5:30 pm.
