Baroque Sundays at Three: The Colonials
Start Date: 10/20/2013Start Time: 3:00 PM
End Date: 10/20/2013

Event Description:
The Colonials, New York's newest chamber ensemble, bring their wide-ranging talents to Stony Brook for a concert of baroque music paired with brand new works composed for these period instruments. This exciting program will feature works by seldom performed baroque composers Hellendaal, Veracini, and Merula, as well as a work by Classical bass virtuoso Sperger. In addition, harpsichordist Elliot Figg offers his Violin Sonata, a new piece that combines baroque sensibilities with his own inimitable harmonic language. Rounding out the program is Erysichthon, a cantata for rapper, soprano, and baroque continuo team. This rap cantata is part of a series based on Ovid's Metamorphoses that the New York Times described as "brilliant and witty."
