New Latino Cinema: Fact, Fiction, and the Imagination

Event Description:
New Latino Cinema is a mini film festival featuring experimental and independent films created by innovative Latino directors from around the world. This event is presented by Stony Brook University with Cinema Tropical.

4:00 pm–5:15 pm:
Short films from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico

5:20 pm–6:00 pm:
Panel Discussion: New Latino Cinema and its Global Presence
Moderator: Madeline del Toro Cherney (International Academic Programs, SBU). Participants: Adrián Pérez-Melgosa (Hispanic Languages & Literature, SBU), Carlos Gutiérrez (Cinema Tropical), Directors of Short Films

6:00 pm–7:00 pm:

Intermission and Reception. Eldad Tarmu (Jazz Department, SBU) Latin Jazz on Vibraphone.
Food & drink provided by La Parrilla & Harmony Vineyards.

7:30 pm–9:00 pm:

Premier Short Film, La Musique de Boulangerie, (Monaco, 2013), followed by feature film, The Fantastic World of Juan Orol (Mexico, 2012).
