Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center Caregivers' Practical Help Workshop

Event Description
The 14th annual Caregivers' Practical Help Workshop sponsored by the Alzheimer's Disease Assistance Center of Long Island offers practical advice about caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease or other dementia. It is designed for family members caring for someone at home and health care professionals. Expert speakers will discuss Alzheimer's disease, communication and behavioral challenges, legal and financial issues and caring for the caregiver.

Registration required by October 28. Free admission, includes lunch.

The Alzheimer’s Disease Assistance Center of Long Island (ADAC-LI) is funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health to provide help to people with memory disorders through expert evaluation, management, and education of patients and caregivers. The center is located in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science Administrative Offices, Stony Brook University Medical Center. By appointment only.

Medical Director: Mark J. Sedler, MD, MPH, is Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science, School of Medicine, and Chief of Psychiatric Services for Stony Brook University Medical Center. Dr. Sedler received his MD from Baylor College of Medicine and did a post-graduate fellowship at McLean Hospital, Harvard. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has added qualifications as a Geriatric Psychiatrist.

Program Director:
Darlene J. Jyringi, MPS, is a Gerontologist who specializes in dementia care counseling. Ms. Jyringi has a Master’s degree in Gerontology and completed additional studies as a Geriatric Scholar, with a specialty in Alzheimer’s disease, at Columbia University, New York Geriatric Education Center.
