Meeting of the Minds Symposium: Stroke
Start Date: 10/20/2017Start Time: 8:00 AM
End Date: 10/20/2017End Time: 12:30 PM
Event Description:

Each autumn, the Stony Brook University Neurosciences Institute hosts this special event, which features lectures by renowned neuroscience experts and celebrates the ongoing achievements of our Neuroscience faculty. This year’s focus is “Stroke,” which accounts for 1 of every 20 deaths in the United States and is the leading cause of serious long-term disability in the U.S.

Our keynote speaker is Michael Tymianski, MD, PhD, Professor and Head of Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Tymianski, a longstanding clinical and research leader in the stroke field, has been recognized by Membership in the Order of Canada. His lecture is titled, “Development of PSD95 Inhibitors for the Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke: Bench to Bedside Story.” Additional talks by Stony Brook faculty will explore basic biology and clinical topics, including the molecular biology of NMDA receptors, the participation of microglial cells in stroke pathophysiology, new approaches to imaging stroke, endovascular interventions, and recovery after stroke.

The event is open to the public and of special interest to physicians, nurses, researchers, students and other healthcare professionals with an interest in the field of stroke.
