Event Description Winter With the Writers has a venerable history in the community. Over the years, the series has recognized the great tradition of writers in Florida, hosting Harry Crews, Debra Frasier, Padgett Powell, Tim Dorsey, and Connie May Fowler, to name just a few. This unique program features Master Classes, author readings, and on-stage interviews with the finest artists in contemporary literature. Authors have included David Halbersham, Dana Goia, Harry Crews, Richard Ford, Kaye Gibbons, Mary Karr, Edward P. Jones, Michael Ondaatje,Tobias Wolff, Nathan Englander, Nikki Giovanni, Dorothy Allison, Billy Collins, Derek Walcott, Jamaica Kincaid, Michael Cunningham, and Ernest Gaines. Winter With the Writers is sponsored by the Thomas P. Johnson Distinguished Visiting Artist Fund and hosted by the Department of English.
Essayist and short-story writer Barry Lopez closes out the WWW festival. He is best known as the author of Arctic Dreams, for which he received the National Book Award. Among his other non-fiction books are About This Life, and Of Wolves and Men, which was a National Book Award finalist. Fiction titles include Field Notes, Winter Count, Light Action in the Caribbean (stories), and Resistance, a book of interrelated stories. |
