Event Description USA, 2011, 79mins
Director: Alexis Ostrander
Defining Beauty: Ms. Wheelchair America, narrated by Katey Sagal, follows the vibrant lives of five women on their journey to the 2010 Ms. Wheelchair America pageant. For 37 years, Ms. Wheelchair America has showcased the accomplishments of hundreds of women, yet it has gone largely unnoticed—until now. Life in a wheelchair has often been defined as one of limitation, loneliness and unfulfilled dreams; however, the women showcased here demonstrate that their chairs do not confine nor define them. These women (mothers, students, athletes, and social activists) challenge themselves daily to live life beyond their limitations and demonstrate to the world that true beauty is encompassed in a desire to succeed, a dedication to serve others, and the will to live life on your own terms.
