Event Description Experience the religious song traditions of Jews from the Middle East and North Africa (e.g. Morocco, Iraq, Iran, and Turkey). Hear, learn, and sing beautiful poetic songs (piyutim) as well as learn the songs’ cultural and historical context from the Middle Ages to their new relevance in the contemporary Israeli music scene. Dr. Galeet Dardashti, musician and anthropologist, offers a unique political and cultural lens for understanding how Israeli identity has changed throughout the country’s short history. |
