Winter With the Writers presents Mihaela Moscaliuc and Ilya Kaminski

Event Description

Born and raised in Romania, Mihaela Moscaliuc came to the United States in 1996 to complete graduate work in American literature. She received an M.A. from Salisbury University, an M.F.A. in poetry from New England College, and a Ph.D. in American Literature from the University of Maryland. Her poetry collection, Father Dirt (winner of the Kinereth Gensler Award) appeared from Alice James Books in 2010, and her co-translation of Carmelia Leonte’s Death Searches for You a Second Time was published by Red Dragonfly Press in 2003. She has published poems, reviews, and articles in journals— The Georgia Review, Prairie Schooner, TriQuarterly, New Letters, Connecticut Review, Poetry International, Pleiades, West Branch, Interculturality and Translation, and in anthologies— History of the Literary Cultures in East-Central Europe , and Orient and Orientalisms in American Poetry and Poetics. Her translations of Romanian poetry appear in Arts & Letters, Mississippi Review, America, Absinthe, and Mid-American Review. In 2011, she was awarded a Glenna Luschei Prairie Schooner Award for her poetry.

Ilya Kaminsky was born in Odessa, former USSR, and arrived in the United States in 1993, when his family was granted asylum by the American government. He is the author of Dancing in Odessa (Tupelo Press, 2004), which was named Best Poetry Book of 2004 by Foreword Magazine. Kaminsky’s honors include a Whiting Writers’ Award, the Milton Center’s Award for Excellence in Writing, the Florence Kahn Memorial Award, Poetry magazine’s Levinson Prize as well as their Ruth Lilly Fellowship, Philips Exeter Academy’s George Bennett Fellowship, and a Lannan Foundation fellowship for poems from his new manuscript, Deaf Republic. In 2010 harperCollins published his anthology of 20th century poetry in translation, Ecco Anthology of International Poetry.
