Event Description Although Havana experienced an impressive growth during the first half of the 20th century, it skipped the urban renewal and over-development of the second half. As a result, Havana is now ready for a sensitive change and renovation according to sustainable principles.
A team of Cuban architects led by Julio Cesar Pérez has designed a Master Plan--conceived for 3,000, 000 people--aimed at preserving the city’s historic, urban and architectural legacy and also at encouraging its future urban and economic development. The urban plan expresses the team’s vision for the future while remaining true to its history; and it has a strong commitment to great urban design to give continuity to Havana’s tradition while establishing a contemporary image.
The Master Plan aspires to offer a more beautiful, urban and dignified Havana where people can live and work, a contemporary place that respects and values tradition and order.
Julia Cesar Pérez is a practicing Cuban architect, urban planner and designer. He is also a professor and author of the book Inside Cuba. His most recent book, Master Plan for XXI Century Havana, is registered at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC. |
