Anthony Flint presents Jane Jacobs & Robert Moses: Fast-forwarding to Today
Start Date: 11/3/2010Start Time: 7:00 PM
End Date: 11/3/2010End Time: 8:30 PM
Event Description:
Anthony Flint, author of Wrestling with Moses: How Jane Jacobs Took on New York's Master Builder and Transformed the American City (Random House), is a fellow and director of public affairs at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy, a think tank in Cambridge, Mass.
Jane Jacobs was the housewife from Scranton, with no college degree but a love of old urban neighborhoods like Greenwich Village in New York City. Robert Moses was the power broker, on the swim team at Yale and with a PhD from Oxford, who built the bridges, highways, parks and public works of New York. Jane Jacobs and Robert Moses battled nearly 50 years ago, but their legacies live on.
Flint will address how this remarkable story holds lessons for the 21st century city.
