Ambassador Patrick Duddy: "After Chavez: Oil, Venezuela and the US"
Start Date: 4/15/2013Start Time: 11:45 AM
End Date: 4/15/2013End Time: 1:30 PM

Event Description:
The death of Venezuela's longtime President Hugo Chavez,
just months after his reelection to a new six-year term, precipitated
presidential elections. The outcome of the elections
will likely determine Venezuelans’ future for years to
come. Venezuelans are not the only ones interested. Despite
years of antagonism, the United States remains Venezuela's
largest market. At the same time, even as he continued
to trade with the United States, Chavez used his oil
revenues to extend his influence and build a network of international
partners to confront it. In the final energy and
security luncheon of academic year 2012‐2013, Patrick
Duddy, the last Senate-confirmed U.S. ambassador to Venezuela,
will discuss the election whichwill just have taken place and the role played by
oil in Venezuela's relationship with the United States.
