Event Description David Dorfman, a longtime favorite of Center Stage and ADF dance audiences, returns with Prophets of Funk, set to the irresistible sounds of Sly and the Family Stone’s groundbreaking, visceral, and powerful music. Recognizing the vitality and revelry of the 1970s, Dorfman’s Prophets of Funk seeks to lift up the spirit of Sly: insisting that in the face of funk, there are still hopes and aspirations that reside in all of us.
Pre-show discussion with David Kyuman Kim, 7pm, Walnut Room. Dr. Kim is Associate Professor of Religious Studies and a member of the Associated Faculty in the Program in American Studies at Connecticut College. In 2006, he became a board member and creative consultant/dramaturge and scholar-in-residence for David Dorfman Dance.
