Event Description
MY NEIGHBOR, MY KILLER (2009) - FREE
My Neighbor My Killer ventures into the rural heart of the African nation of Rwanda. The film follows the first steps in one of the world’s boldest experiments in reconciliation: the Gacaca (Ga-CHA-cha) Tribunals. Gacaca (Ga-CHA-cha), which literally means "justice on the grass", is a form of citizen-based justice which Rwandans decided to put into place in an attempt to deal with the crimes of the 1994 genocide. Filming for over a decade in a tiny rural hamlet, director Anne Aghion has charted the impact this experiment in transitional justice has had on survivors and perpetrators alike.
Part of the CSLEPS Film Series. Not Rated, 80 minutes, DVD.
