Event Description Two of the leading authorities on Surinamese culture, Herman Snijders and Cyriel Eersteling, will present a lecture and discussion on the complex musical and religious expressions of this small South American country with one of the world’s most ethnically diverse populations. In addition to demonstrating drumming techniques utilized in possession rituals, they will explain the metaphysical dimensions of sound and rhythm in the Afro-Surinamese worldview. |
