|
Event Description
The Gregg Museum of Art & Design at North Carolina State University is pleased to exhibit Recent Gifts of Native American Art from the Collection of Drs. Norman and Gilda Greenberg from October 22 – December 19, 2009. The exhibition will showcase the first installment of their gift to the Gregg Museum and will comprise a range of work, including rugs, carvings, baskets and pottery. A reception will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 from 6-8 pm. As part of our Artists & Objects series, the Greenbergs will speak about their exhibition and Native American art collection. The lecture is on Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 6 pm at the Gregg Museum.
In 1953, Drs. Norman and Gilda Greenberg accepted positions with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in New Mexico, where they established a government school for Navajo non-English speaking children. Since that time they have been invited to serve in positions as professors of psychology (Gilda) and anthropology (Norman) at major universities. Their interest in the culture of Native American’s led them to actively collect, and they have amassed a large and impressive body of work.
