Event Description

Works by Alejandro Rutty for voice, a new, large-scale work, CITY OF WEBS by Rutty, a piece by Mark Engebretson, and TANGOS!

Alejandro Rutty is a composer, conductor and art-advocate with a unique profile. His music attempts an engaging blend of traditional subtlety, experimental sophistication, and explosive energy.

Upcoming events include Alejandro Rutty's Residence with the Springfield Symphony(OH) including the performance of "The Conscious Sleepwalker Loops". Recent events include the premiere of "Las Vegas Raga Machine" by the UNCG Wind Ensemble, and the recording of "Simultaneous Worlds" by Due East. Lake Affect, a group dedicated to interdisciplinary work with poets. Rutty has been guest conductor for numerous organizations in symphonic, chamber settings and in theare and opera as well. Recipient of numerous grants and Fellowships, Rutty's education includes degrees in composition, orchestral conducting, and choral conducting. Alejandro Rutty is currently Assistant Professor of Music at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  
 
Lorena Guillén , soprano, has been described as a “delicate soprano” by the Washington-Post, which also commented on her ”...polished performance of ...French cabaret song.” She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and studied at the National Conservatory of Music. She is equally at home as a performer of “art” music and her homeland popular type of music, tango. Guillén has worked closely with Karlheinz Stockhausen in Germany, later touring with his  Indianerlieder  around the US, Canada and Argentina and conducting workshops on his vocal music. Guillén has recorded for Innova Records and the University of Arizona Recordings. She has a solo tango CD, “Never Too Tango,” featuring the participation of several guest artists.
