How does a historic rosemaled plate “come alive”? Dave Beck will talk about his work and the digital art and creation process. Presented by the Lanesboro Arts Center, the artist talk is free to the public, and the St. Mane Theatre is handicapped accessible.
Rosemaling, the art of decorative flower painting, has been an important part of Norwegian-American culture since immigrants first arrived in the United States. In January, Dave Beck was the artist-in-residence at the Lanesboro Art Center. His work focused on both the art of rosemaling in the Midwest, and more specifically on Per Lysne's influence and work. This research took him to both the Vesterheim Museum in Decorah, and to visits with area Lanesboro residents. Beck is a 3D digital artist who creates art that is inspired by the history that he observes around him. During his residency, he used this historical research to create a contemporary digital 3d animation that is inspired by a specific Per Lysne plate in the Vesterheim collection.
