This series of classes is recommended after your sixth month. Our program is designed to provide information on pregnancy, labor and birth, anesthesia, Cesarean birth, post-partum experience, baby care, and infant/child safety. It will also acquaint you with our obstetrical unit and staff, including our lactation consultant.

Information included in these five classes includes a tour of the maternity department, car seat safety, labor and birth preparation, C-section information, relaxation and breathing techniques, toning exercises, infant care, breastfeeding, infant and child CPR.

We encourage the expectant mother to attend with the father or labor partner. Choose a session according to the month you are due.

Classes are Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The fee for the classes is $40.00 a couple. $50.00 for patients delivering out of town.

The LAP-BAND procedure is considered a restrictive bariatric surgery. Restrictive procedures result in an early feeling of satiety (a feeling of fullness). The digestive anatomy does not change, therefore, no malabsorption of nutrients or calories will occur.

The LAP-BAND® System is a safe, effective, and well-established surgical option for severely obese patients. To date, over 300,000 LAP-BAND® Systems have been sold worldwide, with data supported by more than 1,300 publications and references with up to 10 years of follow-up..

The LAP-BAND® System is minimally invasive. It consists of an inflatable silicone band that is placed around the upper part of the stomach, creating a new small upper stomach pouch and narrowed stoma. The size of the stoma can be changed by adding or removing saline from the band, thus controlling the flow rate of food from the upper to lower part of the stomach. No cutting or stapling of the stomach is required, and because the stomach and intestines are not bypassed, there is little risk of vitamin or mineral deficiencies.

Studies have shown that standard gastric bypass surgery generally results in more rapid weight loss than with LAP-BAND® System surgery, but at 3 years and beyond the weight loss is similar for both approaches.

Northeast Bariatrics is now offering the latest A/P (advanced performance) band. It provides a smooth even compression of the gastric wall for the full 360 º of the circumference. The primary mechanism of effect of the band is by induction of a feeling of satiety, a lack of hunger, and a reduced interest in food. Dr. Bono primarily performs this surgery laparoscopically.
