Project Heart Start Day Saturday, June 22 8 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. UNM Johnson Center – South Gym Save a heart, restart a life! More than 300,000 deaths occur each year as a result of sudden cardiac arrest. In fact, it claims one life every two minutes, taking more lives each year than breast cancer, lung cancer, or AIDS. You can help change or reverse this number by learning how to respond with CPR before medical help arrives! Attend the FREE event on June 22 and you will learn: • How to assess the victim and perform the new and easy compression-only CPR. • How to recognize the symptoms of a heart attack and what you should do. • How to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). • How to save a choking victim. This session is appropriate for those who previously attended a team-based learning workshop, for those already implementing TBL in their classes, or for those with some previous knowledge of the process.
Team-application activities are a core element of the team-based learning approach. In this learn-by-doing session, we will focus on creating effective applications as well as how to best facilitate inter-team and intra-team interaction.
By the close of this session, participants will be able to create and facilitate successful application activities in their respective disciplines.

TBL is an exciting "flipped classroom" approach to teaching and learning, and is popular in Health Professions Education as well as many other disciplines (Eng. Math, Management, Business, Accounting, Sociology, Psychology, the list is endless). The most recent audiences include primary/secondary, graduate, and online educational settings. When implemented using all needed components, TBL works extremely well. In addition, TBL minimizes the " social loafer" phenomenon, in which some students prefer to sit back and let others do the work of the team.
By the close of this "learn-by-doing" session, participants will have the basic skill set to adapt any discipline/topic into a team-based learning format
