Open to students, faculty, staff and the community!

Brain Health & Mindfulness reflects more accurately my education, and exploration of a very human dilemma. That is, practicing self-awareness, or mindfulness, in opposition to our default brain and body physiology,  including life history patterns from a broad sense. No religious or formal spirituality, instead a distillation of practices across any and all approaches.

What can be expected at this term’s Brain Health & Mindfulness practice hour?

Standing, slow movement draws attention into the state of the body, will stretch and quiet muscles – and ultimately is the ‘back door’ to quieting mind chatter. Internet access to outside experts, to inspire. A different
method each week in bite-sized form, geared to the CNM environment, and hopefully useful beyond it. In hope of some transparency, listed below is some of my background as that will be evident in weekly themes.

NMT MATH Presentation: Dr. Gilberto Gonzalez-Parra
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Main Campus

Applications of different types of mathematical models in different areas, current trends and perspectives.

Mathematics is a science that is everywhere, and studies different topics such as quantities, structures, space and changes. Mathematics is essential in a variety of fields, including engineering, medicine, biology, economics, business, finance, computer science and other sciences. Mathematics, in conjunction with other sciences, is fundamental to solving many real world problems. Mathematical models are composed of variables that represent the aspects of interest and operators that act on these variables. There are different ways of realizing the abstraction of the real world through mathematical modeling. The choice of the theoretical framework from the mathematical point of view is important since this aspect allows a better approximation to the real phenomenon. In this presentation we will review some important mathematical models that are used nowadays. We will show briefly some applications in different fields such as biomedicine, biology, economics, geosciences, physics, environment, sea sciences, chemistry, petroleum, weather, civil enginering, structures, materials, human behavior and sports.
