The mission of the Take Back the Night (TBTN) Foundation is to end sexual violence in all of its forms including sexual assault, sexual abuse, dating violence, and domestic violence. TBTN empowers survivors in the healing process and inspires responsibility in all. The goal of TBTN is to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives.
The event will include information booths and demonstrations by Albuquerque Ambulance and others.  A 1K Walk to Rally Against Sexual Violence will follow at 4:30. Donations will also be collected for the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) of Albuquerque. Items needed are gently used women’s clothing, new, unopened underwear, socks and canned goods. Donation boxes will be available on CNM Main Campus in the SRC breezeway, MS/KC breezeway, and JS at the second floor elevators beginning next Wednesday, October 22nd.

We can’t wait to see you all there as we do our part to educate the public and find an end to sexual violence.  More information on the organization can be found at http://takebackthenight.org.

Beverly R. Singer is Tewa and Diné from Santa Clara Pueblo, New Mexico and earned her Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of New Mexico (UNM). Dr. Singer is an award winning documentary video producer whose book Wiping the War Paint Off the Lens: Native American Film and Video (2001) examines Native experiences as subjects, actors, and creators of film, and explores how oral histories and ancient lifeways influence Native filmmaking. Please join us as Dr. Singer shares her insights on Native American filmmaking and how influences of the past manifest themselves in modem Native American film.
